I agree with everyone on this being such a clever and wonderful [needed] post for most photographers to think about when purchasing equipment et al . . . . Dust spots are always a problem with me and always looking for great new ways of cleaning my sensors! Great equipment and surprised the lens number wasn't up more than it was!

Excellent post, I think most people don't realize what goes into an SLR system. I chose Canon as well and couldn't be happier. One of the big reasons, I think, to stick with Canon and Nikon is that you can always rent lenses that may be way out of your reach. I've not seen any Pentax, 4/3rds, or Minolta/Sony lens rented.

As far as the dust removal system goes, I know that I was recently disappointed to see a few dust spots in my blue sky areas in recent images I took...So at least in the rebel xti, the dust removal system helps, but I'm still getting dust spots and I'm going to have to clean my sensor manually.

I am very happy with my Gitzo tripod and the Markins ball head. The 1348 does not have a column at all so it does not have a boom type column. The tripod itself can go quite low to the ground though.

That is a very extensive array of equipment canon makes a great product, I have thought many times about switching to canon from my nikon but having to sell everything and then re buying more equipment gives me nightmares :)

BTW I am in the market for a new tripod and ball head, are you pretty happy with the Gitzo and Markins. And does that gitzo have the boom type column so that you can use it on macro wildflowers?
